I trained and worked initially as an interior designer but have spent the last 30 years as a freelance artist. My work has included murals and trompe l'oeil for houses, churches, restaurants and hotels, as well as stained glass effect on windows, commissioned paintings and graphic work. I have also worked extensively as a photographer, both in landscapes and weddings.
I have lately been focusing back to my roots producing artworks, particularly with my first love for the humble pencil. I often work with graphite pencils, especially Derwent Graphics, and recently started to concentrate on colour pencils. Always landscapes, my subjects are usually based around scenes from Cumbria and Yorkshire as well as Scotland.
I was influenced recently by exhibitions for both linocut prints and comic artwork and have been inspired towards a mix of black ink and pencils, preferring the clean sharp edges to the usual softer results from pencil alone.
I'm still learning and honing my craft and enjoying every moment with this medium.
