Sandra Dewsberry

Originally from Nuthall, Nottingham now living in Burton on Trent, Staffs.

I received no formal art training other than scraping through art 'O' level at Grade C in 1976, but always wished I could draw.

When I came across the UKCPS exhibition at the NEC and saw what could be achieved with coloured pencils, I felt compelled to have a go myself, drawing from photographs.

Peek-a-Boo Bear was the result of my first attempt and was completed in August 2010. I was pleasantly surprised with the result and wanted to do and learn more as well as mix with like minded people, so became a member of the UKCPS and searched for a local group. I joined the East Leake group run by Robin Borrett, and made some lovely new friends and have been progressing steadily ever since. I am mostly attracted by bright colours and lots of detail regardless of the subject.

On a whim in April of 2012, I entered a picture, Stanage Edge, in Patchings Art Festival and was stunned and delighted to win an award. This was my first ever competition entry.
